Lynn Foley Joins the LMA Podcast to Discuss Stress & Mental Wellness in Legal Marketing

Lynn Foley, CEO of fSquared Marketing, recently joined the LMA Podcast for a two-part mini-series exploring stress and wellbeing in legal marketing.

In Part 1, Lynn and Trish Lilley, Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer at Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP, discuss takeaways from the 2020 Legal Marketing Mental Wellness Survey.

The Legal Marketing Mental Wellness Survey was conducted by fSquared Marketing in partnership with the LMA. Containing responses from more than 400 marketing and business professionals working in law firms, as well as marketing consultants in the legal industry, it is the most in-depth study of its kind.

The survey revealed that law firm marketing professionals are under an immense amount of pressure. 96% of respondents agreed there is significant stress in the legal marketing field. 71% reported often feeling overwhelmed at work and 79% said that their work-related stress had increased during the pandemic.

Lynn and Trish explore the factors behind these jaw-dropping numbers, including a high degree of perfectionism in legal, time constraints, and the formality of the industry. Trish also notes that marketing professionals at law firms are “working with a population of individuals [lawyers] who have gone to school to find the problems in things, the flaws…loopholes, and mistakes…they are trained to find issues and problems.” This critical, adversarial environment can contribute to a challenging work environment.

Lynn and Trish also consider strategies for managing stress including taking breaks and setting boundaries.
